EOC: Week 3: Movie 9 to 5

The movie 9 to 5 depicts what you would think the movie would be a comedy. However it goes deeper than that. The writer did her own research on how woman felt they were treated in the “business” world. All the actors pretty much never worked in that type of environment and they each showed off their own take of the situation. Their research basically conducted of entering the work place and living the life of these women in this type of environment.

Feminism was apparent and sexism. The woman were treated as if they were slaves to the “man” or boss, even woman as senior executives were passed over for a man. Even if the man was at entry level he would have gotten the promotion before the woman. It’s crazy to see how times have changed and most women now own their own businesses or are the CEO’s of companies.

When they finished this movie they thought they were only speaking to “working” woman but they actually spoke to children, teenagers, anyone who ever had an authority figure in their life? I really enjoy watching this movie and now understanding how they came about making it really inspires me to dig deeper in other films that may have an underlying message that we may not see.

To actually go above and beyond just writing a story they actually went to the basics. That is why this movie was so popular. It showed to the working woman of this era that we hear you and we want to in harsh words exploit these types of scenarios in hopes of maybe fighting against the sexism in the workplace. It also gives woman a bond and inner strength to fight back, or bring out their Feminism side.

EOC: Wk 2 Researching a Survey

Researching a survey that has already been conducted and with results was a tricky matter to grasp what I wanted to research the research. So I chose to do it on a topic I can see anywhere and have an interest in ( as educational and realistic purposes) SEX. The survey is called POLL: American Sex Survey; A Peek Beneath the Sheets. This alone caught my eye. When headlines have great wording I am automatically dragged to them.

This survey went on for over a few pages but the research they found went in to full depth and detail of all types of sexual orientation. I found this to be a great survey because it involves everyone in this world not just men and woman. “Sometimes, it's just about sex. Usually not: The vast majority of Americans are monogamous and happy about it, expressing satisfaction with their sex lives and a broad preference for emotional commitment in sexual relationships. Most by far prefer marriage to the single life.”(http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/PollVault/story?id=156921&page=1)

What I found so true and really made me think a bit deeper on this survey just to look at the top coat of it was that it said “But there's more to sex in America in 2004 than that 1950s picture suggests.”(http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/PollVault/story?id=156921&page=1) I believe this statement to be true and it shows that there is more to sex than what was done in the past and how it was depicted. People believe if they have sexual talk or are thinking outside of the “norm” of sex they are bad, or going to hell, or whatever crazy talk people put into their heads. But what I realized in life and in this survey that it’s natural to think of sex, speak about it, and even fantasize about weird-odd things, its natural and its human. Most people are brought up to not fully indulge or even just talk about temptation or what it is they like. I think it restrains the person and that’s what causes more people to stray away or disappear from a stress-free, open relationship with themselves. “Moreover, the survey finds that satisfaction with sex does matter. A statistical analysis identifies some of the factors independently related to satisfaction with sex, marriage and life more broadly. Among other findings, it shows that activities such as discussing fantasies with a partner contribute to an exciting sex life, that an exciting sex life contributes to a happy marriage and that a happy marriage contributes to life satisfaction.”(http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/PollVault/story?id=156921&page=1)

This is a great survey and I highly suggest you check out the links to see each category broken down and see exactly where you may stand on these questions, or even find out some information that you may not have known and wanted to know. This last thing I wanted to say is that everybody does need a little help and this statement finalized that for me. “Finally, a sex survey can't be complete without a mention of Viagra and similar drugs. Six percent of sexually active Americans say they or their partner take such medications, with its use rising sharply after age 50. Among men 50 and over, 17 percent -- one in six -- get a little help.” (http://abcnews.go.com/Primetime/PollVault/story?id=156921&page=4)

BOC: Wk 2 Quiz

1.What is a booty pop and what is its significance?

A booty pop is essentially a bustle. A way to accentuate the buttocks that you were not blessed with in your life. It takes padding and has sewn them into the undergarments so it would appear to the naked eye that you have a “J-L” booty so to speak.

2. Who shops more online men or woman? What is the % in dollar ratio?

Proven studies show that men spend more money online but overall woman shop more than men. Women take their time and can be easily distracted while men are easy and they like to get in and get out. $4.3 billion (men) to $9.6 billion (woman)

3. Who spends more time online men or woman?

Women spend more time online shopping. Women are easily distracted and have more patience looking around than men do. Men go in to a store with a purpose and don’t want to spend anytime wondering around aimlessly, while most women can spend hours shopping either online or in the actual mall. Online shopping male around $15 billion a year.

4. What is the advantage marketers have with woman shopping online than men?

Women tend to be the ones shopping for everything in a household. Women shop for men too so the marketers can double their strategy of marketing but keeping costs down. They can grab the woman’s attention in all areas of shopping not just sticking to the norm of what women usually shop for.

EOC: Week 1

Before coming to class my mind was racing on what this class “Principles of Marketing Research” would be about. I figured okay it’s exactly how it sounds. But after the first class I realized there is more to this class that what it states in the name.

I hope to learn yes how marketers today gather their research but the different strategies on how they calculate the correct research into their presentation that helps get their message across. I want to gather as much knowledge in this class on different ways of research, and how to alleviate bad information or non-useful information and how to keep great and interesting information that keeps the consumers attention.

I just also want to walk away from this “crash course” of marketing research and have the basic knowledge of what it is that this profession does on a daily basis. And who knows I may find a passion for this niche and take further classes that deal with this course and minor in marketing. I know for a fact what I am excited to learn is all the weird little tidbits of information that you, Mr. Pinto have stored in your brain. That is the highlight of having your classes I feel. I come out of your classes knowing more about the course we just learned about but also the extra additive information that we get by having you as an instructor.

Principles of Marketing Research course are definitely going to allow me to explore all the areas of researching, the good, the bad and the Frustrating! But as long as Pinto keeps up with his quirky extra information that I didn’t know, I am all for the good, the bad and the Frustration of all this researching!
